Chicago-based industrial designer Mark Kinsley has designed a modular shelving & art unit which provides a variety of graphics on the back panels, while providing an easy method for adding a unique aesthetic to any space. A trendy and urban design, the folding-out shelving unit is very versatile in its use. Kinsley has designed everything from products, to furniture, to lighting, in which he replies ”Both are not easy to do!” This wall system is very much a new design and concept, and its future will depend on how successfully it catches the eye of people looking for the versitility of art & furniture, another blissful marriage!

Great Shelving Ideas for Your Home!

When it comes to storage, display, and basic shelving needs, we can be pretty boring sometimes with what we put on our walls! So i’ve looked around town (a.k.a the internet) and found some interesting options which could easily be incorporated into your own space, and are modular options which offer the ability for you to configure them in any shape or arangement.

The wall mounted shelving called “String Pocket,” was designed by Nisse Strinning in the 1950′s and offers perfect storage for all those paper backs you’ve stacked on the floor, am I right!?!

The ’Met Home’ for July & August in Metropolitan Home caught my eye, and more specifically one little detail that the designer utilized in the kitchen. Designed by Resolution: 4 Architecture along with interior designer Amy Lau, this “mid-century feel” home utilizes an abundance of natural materials such as cedar and stones, classic furniture, and many built-in features.

SO what was that one little deatil I was speaking of? Well it’s the incorporation of floating wood shelves (which are actually suspended by wire) in front of a large expanse of glass above the sink. This detail is so fantastic because it essentially still offers a view outside, but at the sime time provides extra shelving space and a little bit of privacy- oh and it just looks damn great!
