Philippe Starck, one of our favorite designers, has recently designed a series of innovative kitchens for Warendorf (formerly known as Miele Kitchens). The concept behind these kitchens is that the kitchen is a social hub so new functional elements such as bookshelves are introduced into the designs.

There are 4 designs:

The first design is “Library” where a kitchen is surrounded by bookshelves and a sliding ladder to access them. Best for cooks with lots of cookbooks!

Image from http://www.www.warendorf.eu

The next concept or design is “Primary” which is a small space solution. Best suited for lofts or small apartments, this kitchen has everything you need while keeping spacesaving in mind.

Image from http://www.www.warendorf.eu

The third design is the “Duality” kitchen where there are options to use the wall element as a divider. The kitchen island also does double duty as a regular dining area or as a worksurface.

Image from http://www.www.warendorf.eu

The last design is “Tower” where all the kitchen functions are hidden behing closed doors on two rotating towers.

Image from http://www.www.warendorf.eu

How do you feel about accent furniture and lighting which resembles weaponry or has been re-purposed from weapons? It brings a whole new meaning to “Love not War!” Metaphorically speaking, it can represent the fact that we do not need to use weapons to fight, but rather can use them functionally in everyday life to better serve humaninty. It can be a ‘Far-Out’ explnanation, but whatever you feel about this topic, it’s hard to disagree that these next few pieces are pretty ‘Darn cool!

The “Eiger North Light” was designed by Matthias Ries. His descripstion for this light is as follows: Eiger North Light shows in a provocative way the weakness and vulnerability of preservation and conservation. In order to experience the golden shine you need to let loose your destructive inner.

image from www.matthiasries.com

The Second is the very recognizable Philippe Starck ’Gun Lamps & Vase Collection’- “To life, To Death.” The Guns Collection is nothing but a sign of the times.
We get the symbols we deserve.
Happiness is a hot gun.
Glory to our dictators
To Life, To Death

And lastly see what other designers have created through utilizing weapons…

image from www.google.com

Since I told you a bit about Katsuya the cool restaurant in LA by Philippe Starck last week, thought I would share with you another restaurant that I’ve been to which was designed by him as well. The restaurant is Kong and it is in Paris. Ahhhh Paris….if you visit Paris then I highly recommend that you go check out Kong. The food was pretty good and the decor was one of a kind. I definitely put it up there with my top 10 coolest restaurants visited. You may also recognize it from the Season Finale of Sex and the City when Carrie goes to Paris. Now you have to go!

What do you think? Cool? or waaaay too weird?
