Usually Neiman Marcus is associated with high fashion for clothing but did you ever think to look for furniture there?! Turns out they have some fabulous finds at some reasonable (and some at not so reasonable) prices. I was especially drawn to their chair collection because they have so many fun styles. I admit I love using a modern or fun fabric on a traditional piece to give it a more eclectic feel. You see alot of that kind of style here and it gives the furniture a more “custom” look. Many of their chairs would be great as a “feature” piece in a living room or as an unconventional desk chair.

I still remember one of my first days on the job as an Interior Designer a few years ago. I was shopping for furniture and I came across the Open Oval Cane Back Chair by Barbara Barry. I thought it was one of the most beautiful chairs I had ever seen and I drooled over it and its $3K pricetag for quite some time. I still think that the Barbara Barry chairs are beautiful. There is something about them…..the clean lines and elegance of the shapes make them timeless pieces and well worth the prices that you pay! Sigh…..one day I’ll own one of these!

Barbara Barry also has a fabric line through Kravet and one of the designs in her collection features pictures of some of her chairs on it. I think it’s super cute:

So i’m all for innovation & technology, and esspecially when these aspects are integrated into furniture design- THOUGH, I feel like we get carried away sometimes. Thus, the iBum designed by Tomomi Sayuda. What is it? In brief, the chair essentially has a scanner on the seat which will automatically photocopy your ‘behind’ when you sit down on it, and then print the image from the side of the chair.

I will admit that this chair is extremely humourous and quite interesting, but I just cannot bring myself to find its’ true purpose. Maybe that’s the answer, “There is no purpose!” I’ll let you decide for yourself how you feel about it, i’m done being an ASS!
We’re always excited to feature products and designs from Canada, therefore when I came across this spectacular chair (both sculptural and functional) my creativity was truly invigorated! The Magic Chair designed by Dripta Roy of PUUR Design Studio encompasses four chairs that perfectly nestle into one another. The option to contain or to expand is what makes this piece so functional for any space, but it’s the sleek and innovative use of molded wood that gives this chair that sexy appeal!

So many of us are lucky to have unique antiques passed down to us from parents, grandparents, or even great grand parents. Though, lets be honest… sometimes they’re just not in the best of condition or/ they look like they’ve been in grandma’s attic for the last 100 years. The best, easiest, and most economical way to Rejuvenate any antique is simply through a nice coat of paint. IF you want to take it that extra step, and if it’s an upholstered piece, just recover it with a funky fabric, leather, a whimsical print, or modern pattern. The great thing about old antique dining chairs is that most of them are staple-back upholstery which makes it that much easier. For that last touch, you could also introduce a modern nailhead- such as the one applied to the chairs below. It offers a glamorous look!

Though at the end of the day, think about the possibilities with what you have, and what you can save from the dumpster. There are so many beautifully made antiques out there, and they deserve a home too!
