Unlikely Inspiration.

The Aperture House, Wisconsin- commissioned by Roger Scommegna- and realized by Vetter Dank Architects, shows us how inspiration can come sometimes from the most unlikely places…even a $9.99 screw-top wine bottle! Mr. Scommegna, a dot-com success, drew his inspiration from the wine he personally produced from his vineyards thinking: “If a good wine could be mass-marketed in an unassuming package at an affordable price, he reasoned, perhaps the same could be done with architecture.”

“Simple packaging, and nothing fancy, because this is a screw-top jug. But I want good design, and I want it to be a surprise when someone opens up the wine or comes in the house.’ I just kind of wanted it to be quiet on the outside, big surprise on the inside. And then I left them with this bottle of wine.”
